REC (Red 15 JAN 08)

Government House,
Hongkong, 17th December, 1907.

My Lord,

Referring to Your Lordship's despatch No.199 of the 12th October, 1906, I have the honour to inform you that I have found it necessary to dispense with the services of Mr. C.J.E.Moorsom owing to the unsatisfactory way in which he has discharged his duties and also to his physical unfitness for the work. In the circumstances of his case I have considered it best to grant him a month's salary and a passage to England under Clause 9 of his Agreement.

2. I have now to request that the Crown Agents may be asked to select at the earliest possible date a suitable candidate for the vacant post in accordance with the Form of Particulars enclosed. It should be made plain in the Agreement of the officer chosen that he is to reside and carry out his duties in any part of the Colony of Hongkong or the New Territories, as the Government may direct

RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF ELGIN, K.G.,
&C., &C., &C.
