of hospital accommodation in Kowloon is becoming a matter

of urgent necessity, and the Registrar-General has accordingly been in communication with the leading members of

the Chinese Community who have shown great interest in the

project, with the result that a representative Committee

have now applied to me for a definite assurance regarding

the measure of support that will be accorded from public

funds.

It is suggested in the first instance by the Committee that a free grant of a site

should be made, and I have to ask Your Lordship's permission to accede to this request.

An area of Crown Land at Yaumati, tinted red in the attached tracing, has been selected as

suitable for the purpose, its value being, according to an estimate by the Director of Public Works, as follows:-

Premium:-

130,000 Square Feet at 25 cents.................. $32,500

Crown Rent:-

130,000 Square Feet = 2.984 acres at $350 an acre = $1,044 per annum;

capitalised at 7 per centum...... $14,914

Total value.............. $47,414
