34. It is especially important that the diploma to be issued should be recognised by the Government. It would have a very useful effect, we venture to suggest, if for instance the Government would undertake at once to recognise a diploma in Civil Engineering as counting towards the qualifications required of an authorised architect; and a general promise to recognise the value of the diploma and certificates in any subject would give the classes an assured position and increase the number of students.
35. PROSPECTUS. If our proposals are adopted, the prospectus published last year will need to be re-cast. Details regarding the course of study should be relegated to the Annual Report; they are not appreciated by intending students; but particulars of the hours of study, of the text-books recommended, of the time necessary to obtain a diploma, and of the value of a diploma, etc., should be included in the prospectus, which should be published in English and Chinese. A few posters in Chinese, to be issued about a fortnight before the term commences, will be a useful means of giving publicity to the classes.
