be made for continuing the classes now in existence and a
course in Steam should be included in this section as also
courses in Field Survey and Electricity.
10.
We do not think it possible for students to attend
all the classes necessary for a complete course in Building
Construction and Engineering. Students must be content to
select a course in Mechanical Civil or Electrical Engineering
and when they have completed one course they can attack a
second.

It has been found impossible so far to find a
teacher of applied electricity but that difficulty may be solved
during the next twelve months and no students will be qualified
to take the course before October 1908. In the meantime pro-
vision should continue to be made for a class in Electricity
and Magnetism. The constantly widening applications of electrici-
ty in engineering and the consequent importance of providing
instruction in the subject in Hongkong prompt us to suggest as
worthy of consideration that on the next occasion that the
staff of the Public Works Department is recruited reference
should be given ceteris paribus to an officer with a practical knowledge of electrical engineering, and we recommend that the suggestion be referred to the Director of Public Works.

not in a flourishing condition. The subject taught is school hygiene for teachers and we are of opinion that it does not
fall within the scope of these classes. In any case the demand
for it confined as it is to Chinese teachers in Anglo-Chinese Schools, is very limited, and we recommend the class be struck
off the list.
13.
The study of physics or of a portion of the subject forms a necessary part of the mechanical engineering course and that of electricity a necessary part of the course in electrical engineering, but while we think that courses of study in these two subjects should be drawn up suitable for
engineering
