Under the division "Communications"
$30,000 has been included for the extension of the scheme of main thoroughfares in Kowloon and $15,000 for the extension of Kowloon City Road towards Customs Pass and for the commencement of a new road from Sha Tau Kok to Ping Shan in the New Territories. The raising of Des Voeux Road, Kowloon, which is estimated at $20,000 is necessitated by the reclamation which has been undertaken for the Railway Terminus in Hung Hom Bay.
Provision for the Blake Pier Shelter was inserted in the Estimates for 1907, but the order for the necessary material is not expected to be completed in time to permit of the work being carried out this year. The construction of a pier opposite the Queen's Statue was considered with the Estimates for the present year but had to be deferred for lack of funds. It is one of the principal landing places and the existing accommodation consists in an entirely inadequate wooden structure.
The paving of the Cattle Depot Compound at Kennedy Town I found on a recent inspection to be less urgent than I had anticipated and I do not propose to proceed with it next year. Your Lordship will recollect that my predecessor in the 5th paragraph of his Despatch No. 93 of 18th April last
