5. Diagnosis & Rabies := 2.
Rabbits and guinea pigs were needed for the inoculations with the dog's cerebral substance emulsified in saline solution. The rabbits were inoculated intracerebrally through the orbit; the guinea pigs were injected along the course of the facial nerve.
The average incubation period in the rabbit was 10 days, death supervening 6-8 days later. That of the guinea pig varied from 20-30 days, death occurring 5-10 days subsequently.
6. Blood Smears from Cattle in local depôts with high temperatures and profuse bloody and mucoid diarrhoea = 28.
Nothing found microscopically in 1 case. Result Negative
