The Induction of Plague by Feeding.
In my Report on Epidemic and Epizootic Plague, published in 1904, I discussed more or less fully the modes of transmission of Plague to man and to animals. From my clinical and pathological experience I showed that in addition to the well recognised types of plague, there existed another; namely a gastro-intestinal form, and that this variety is found both in man and in animals.
Apart from the work of Wilm, there is little or no evidence in scientific literature regarding this type of the disease up to the year 1898, when the Austrian Plague Commission showed that if large amounts of plague infected material were used, intestinal plague could be produced.
