sir,

Public Works Department,

Hongkong, 2nd February, 1904.

I have to call your attention to the fact

that recent landslips on the South side of Inland Lot 1523, due

to cutting away the hill in order to level that lot, render it

likely that damage will be caused to the Bowen Road aqueduct,

unless some steps are taken to secure the bank by constructing

a good retaining wall.

The consequences of such a mishap as the

carrying away of the conduit would be very serious, seeing that

the City is mainly dependent upon it for its supply of water and

I would therefore impress upon you the necessity of proceeding

with the construction of the wall at once.

My reason for writing to you is because I am

informed that you only propose to construct the retaining wall at present in progress along a portion of the bank instead of extending it the full length as is obviously necessary in order

to make the bank secure.

I have etc.,
