No 23 SEP 07 Government House,

240

Hongkong, 22nd. August, 1907.

Referring to the correspondence

noted in the margin, I have the honour to transmit for

Your Lordship's consideration the enclosed copy of a

letter addressed to the Registrar-General by the Committee

of the Tung Wa Hospital asking for an increase of $4,000

per annum to the annual grant of $6,000 made to the

Hospital by the Government.

2.

The grounds upon which the Com-

-mittee base their application are the expense incurred by

the Hospital in burials of dead bodies sent there from the

Government Mortuaries; in the maintenance of the Plague

Hospital at Kennedy Town; and in repatriating Chinese

destitutes.

3.

The second item may be left out

of account because the Hospital in question was in exist-

-once 'before the grant of $6,000 per annum was made.

There.

HE RIGHT HONOURABLE

THE EARL OF ELGIN, K.G.,
