I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your Lordship's Despatch No.122 of the 11th ultimo, informing me that subject to the approval of the Legislative Council, Your Lordship were prepared to sanction the payment of the salaries of Officers, when in the Colony, drawing Sterling or Dollar with Exchange Compensation, at the rate of 2 shillings to the dollar so long as the exchange value of the dollar is at or above that figure; and as at present when the exchange value is below 2 shillings, existing arrangements for calculating the rate of exchange remaining also as at present.
2. I enclose copy of a report of the proceedings at a Meeting of the Legislative Council held on the 16th instant when the Unofficials unanimously adopted a resolution giving effect to the terms of Your Lordship's Despatch.
