Colonial Secretary's Office,

Hongkong, 3rd July, 1907.

Sir,

I am directed to inform you that from evidence given before the Public Health and Buildings Ordinance Commission regarding the Banking Accounts of certain officers in the Sanitary Department, it appears that a sum of $1,900 was placed on fixed deposit with the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation on the 6th September, 1905, by Inspector John Reidie.

Inspector Reidie has informed this Government that he received the amount in question from you.

I am accordingly to enquire if you will be good enough to explain for the information of His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government the circumstances which led to the transaction.

E. M. Hazeland, Esq.

I am,

etc.,

(Sd.) A. M. Thomson,

Colonial Secretary.
