The policy of making the District

Schools feeders to Queen's College has not been altogether

successful, but the scheme has hardly had a fair trial as

yet.

These Schools are increasingly

popular and the extension of the accommodation provided at

them will demand early consideration.

With regard to Grant-aided

Vernacular Schools the policy which, with Sir Matthew

Nathan's concurrence, has been decided on is to withdraw

assistance (under clause 29(1) of the Grant Code) to the

weakest of them and to endeavour to encourage the improve-

-ment of the remainder.

In pursuance of this policy the

Managers of the Schools numbered 15, 16, 41, 43, 56, 57

and 38 in the report of the Inspector of Schools have been

warned that if these Schools are again reported inefficient

the grants to them will be discontinued; and the grants to

the Schools numbered 65 and 67, which have been reported

inefficient for the second time, have actually been dis-

-continued.
