With reference to the suggestion
made in my Despatch Confidential of the 29th. ultimo, that
a change should be made in the administrative Head of the
Sanitary Department, I have the honour to recommend that
in the event of such suggestion being adopted, Dr. J. M.
Atkinson should suffer no diminution of salary.

Before he became Head of the
Sanitary Department his salary was $4,800 rising to
$6,000 with Exchange Compensation.
It is now $7,200 rising to $7,800
in accordance with the recommendation made in Sir Henry
Goo
'Blake's Despatch No. 134 of the 18th. March, 1903.

In the meantime, however, the
Victoria Hospital has been opened. This is a Hospital of
40 beds, and increasing use is being made of it by the
Community and by strangers from outside the Colony. Dr.
Atkinson
