1904 I have the honour to inform Your

Lordship that on the 28th. instant, I sent the following

telegram:-

Drunkenness

Referring to my predecessor's Despatch No. 220, 1906,

Lofthouse dismissed for drunkenness. Successor should

be appointed as soon as possible.

and to state that Mr. T. C. Lofthouse was dismissed from

the Service for continuous absence from duty on account of

drunkenness almost from the very date of his arrival in

the Colony, he, indeed, having never properly reported

himself for duty, and having been on more than one

occasion picked up on the Street by the Police.

I have therefore to request that

a successor in the post of Drainage Overseer in the Public

Works Department be obtained without delay on the condi-
