In the meantime I have caused the public to be invited to attend and see for themselves how these operations are conducted. I enclose copy of a notice in this behalf. So far as I have been able to learn, scarcely any have shown sufficient interest in the matter to gain first-hand knowledge of how the general cleansing and disinfection are carried out.

In regard to the entry and inspection of buildings, it must be remembered that the Sanitary Inspectors either speak Chinese well enough to dispense with Chinese Interpreters or are accompanied by Interpreters. Those who use Interpreters are in the great majority.
The absence of specific complaints and my own experience of many years visiting Chinese houses in the Colony, which I lose no opportunity of continuing, lead me to believe that the statements of the Commissioners in this connection are again much exaggerated.
Among the poorer classes of Chinese, I am convinced that there is very little complaint in this connection. The richer Chinese undoubtedly do resent
