wrote to the Consulting Engineers on the subject (having first brought the matter before Mr. A. J. Barry when he was in the Colony), this correspondence you will see in my General Letter No. 23 dated 8th February, 1907.

I hope to get permission to use other sleepers, when I am asking for further tenders for the sleepers for the section from the Tunnel to the Frontier. This will allow a great number of other firms to tender.
