I, LAU YEE LIN (劉潤年) of No. 27 Reclamation
Street Yaumati in the Colony of Hong Kong, Postman, do solemnly,
sincerely and truly declare and say as follows:
1. Up to the 28th day of March 1906, I had for some four years previously been employed by one O Yung, junk owner and owner of the "Tung On Tai" junk. I was employed in the capacity
of helmsman.
2. Whilst in his employment, I made the journey to ... in the Empire of China on board the "Tung On Tai" junk many times.
3. Shortly after 3 p.m. on the 28th day of March 1906, the "Tung On Tai" junk sailed from Causeway Bay in the Colony of Hong Kong on a voyage to ... with a full cargo of general
merchandise. I was at the helm.
4. The weather at the time the said junk started from Causeway Bay aforesaid was fine; there was no fog or rain. There was very little wind, hardly enough to move the junk, and what wind there was was from the Eastward.
5. I commenced the said voyage by tacking almost straight across the Harbour of Hong Kong heading South-West. I held on that tack for about half an hour. I then went about and tacked back across the Harbour heading South-East. The weather was still fine and there was still very little wind, and the junk was moving very slowly. The tide at the time was running
about half ebb.
