In the matter of a collision between
the United States of America Auxiliary Alexander and the Tung On Tai junk licence No. 461 which occurred in the Harbour of Hongkong on the 28th day of March 1906.
I, Yong of Victoria in the Colony of Hongkong do hereby solemnly sincerely and truly declare and say as follows:-
1.
I was the owner of the junk named Tung On Tai licence No. 461 which came into collision with the United States of America Auxiliary Alexander on the 28th day of March 1906 in the Harbour of Hongkong.
2.
I purchased the said junk some five years before the date of the collision for the sum of $3000.
3.
The capacity of the said junk was 1500 peculs.
4.
The said junk was considerably damaged by the collision with the Alexander and sank almost immediately after the collision. She was raised and on examination it was found that the cost repairing her would amount to between $1500 and $2000 if not more.
5.
I have not got the necessary fund to repair the said junk and consequently she lay useless at Saukiwan until on the 19th September 1906 she was completely destroyed by the typhoon which blew on that day.
6.
The usual length of life of a junk similar to the Tung On Tai would be about 12 or 14 years.
7.
The collision between the said junk and the Alexander and the consequent idleness of the junk deprived me of my sole means of livelihood which was derived from the working of the said junk.
