Q. What was the date of the collision?
A. March 28, 1906.
Q. What time?
A. Eight minutes past four, p.m.
Q. In what direction were you heading when you first sighted
this junk?
A. S.W. by W.
Q. In what direction was she heading?
A. Crossing our bow, starboard tack.
Q. Where was the wind?
A. East; force 3.
Q. If she had kept on her course could you have cleared her?
A. Yes.
Q. When this junk was about hundred feet away, how was your
helm?
A. Starboard.
Q. At what speed were you moving?
A. Practically no speed. I should judge that she was moving
about a knot through the water. Tide was setting to the Eastward, and the wind was East.
Q. What did you do when you first sighted the junk?
A. I put my helm to starboard to pass under her stern.
Q. She was 100 feet away tacking. Before he could recover headway to clear us, he was down on our bow.
Q. After the junk tacked did she make any headway, or did she
reach to windward?
A. She was slow in coming about, and reached up to windward.
