Referring to previous correspond-

-ence terminating with Mr. Lyttelton's Despatch No. 260

of the 31st. August, 1904, on the subject of the position

in the Medical Service of this Colony of Dr. W. V. M. Koch,

I have the honour to state that I have received a further

Memorial from that Officer, again applying for an increase

of salary on the ground of his seniority in the Service of

the Crown as compared with that of other Assistant Surgeons

in his Department, whose emoluments are almost equal to

his.

I would remind Your Lordship that

Dr. Koch was appointed Assistant Surgeon in Trinidad in

July, 1889, and was transferred to Hongkong in January,

1903, upon a salary of £480 rising to £720 per annum by

triennial increments of £40, a scale which shortly prior

to his arrival had been approved for all Assistant Surgeons

in
