Dear Mr Guterres,
I am very sorry to see the accusations made against you
and can only say that during my twenty-two years' trade to Hongkong
as Master in the P&O Coy I have never met a more courteous and
obliging man than yourself. You have during the above period paid
my crew off twice a year on board, and the exact money made up
before your arrival by the Purser which not in one instance was
found to be wrong.
I shall be very sorry to lose you from your present
position, after the many years I have known you as an honourable
and straightforward man.
