Hong Kong 6th January 1907.
Dear Mr Guterres,
I am deeply sorry to learn of your trouble and accusations that have been made against you.
During the fifteen years that I have been discharging crews before you, I have always brought my charges and I have not noticed any irregularity on your part, and I have always seen the crew paid in full according to the account of wages.
I sincerely trust that you will not be asked to resign, as I feel sure all masters trading to the Port will miss your assistance very much.
Yours faithfully,
(Signed) J. Davies.
