Dear Mr Guterres,

Hong Kong 4th January 1907.

I hand you the enclosed trusting the same may be of use in vindicating your character with regard to the cruel, and what seems to be spiteful accusations brought against you, you have my deepest sympathy in what must be a very painful position, after your long and honourable career, and I am sure that every Shipmaster and the whole fraternity that has come in contact with you at this Port of Hong Kong would endorse my sentiments.

I wish you every success in bringing the matter to a satisfactory conclusion for yourself, and with regards.

Believe me

Yours sincerely

(Signed) H. W. I. Evans.
