Dear Sirs,

I was never more astonished in my life, than when I came into port today and found that I had been suspended from your service for acting unfairly in my duties as master.
I believe it to be a malicious libel. I have known you for many years now, and have often seen you at work, with your office and your dealing with the crews, and was able to judge that you are fair.
I can speak from personal knowledge on board the ship, and I can truthfully say that the officers and men do their duties in a loyal and conscientious manner.
If I can be of any service to you, please command me. I shall be only too pleased.
In the meantime, let me assure you of my sympathy and support. I hope that you will be able to refute what I believe to be an artfully concocted libel.
