To all whom this may Concern,
This is to say that I have been travelling regularly from Europe to the Port of Hong Kong for the past ten years, engaging in business (partly at the Custom House, at times the business being transacted at the M. M. G. and others on board the vessel) & may safely state with regard to the accusations of irregularities said to have been made by Mr. Coutures in his Capacity as Shipping Master, that on no occasion in my knowledge, has such a thing taken place; on the contrary, I have always noticed Mr Gutierrez to be prompt, but quite fair on all sides in what he did; further, my experience in these matters lets me know, it would be impossible for the things mentioned to have happened without any one of my knowledge, in my position as Manager.
The Whole affair appears to be the outcome of some pretty spite.
In conclusion, I would like to say that Mr. Gutierrez is generally looked upon by all...
