Examined by Mr. May: Are you the master of the Fook Cheong of No. 17, Ko Shing Street?

A. I am.

A. Yes.

The defendant: Your Excellency, excuse me, he is not the master. Excuse me for saying so.

A. I know him.

Q. Who is he?

A. I asked his interpreter formerly and he said he is an inspector.

Q. That sort of an inspector?

A. I only know that he was an inspector. I don't know what kind of an inspector.

Q. Has he visited your place?

A. When I altered the stairway where the ladder is, he came there.

Q. Has he not visited your shop on any other occasion?

A. I have seen him pass by but he has not come in.

Q. Very well, have you made any present to the defendant?

A. Yes, at Christmas the year before last, I made him a present of poultry.

Q. Will you tell us how you made that present, where you made it and all about it?

A. The matter commenced with these repairs to the ladder at the mid-Autumn festival in the 8th moon of the year.

Q. I don't want to know about the ladder. I want to know how he made the present of the poultry. He said he made a present of the poultry, when did he present the poultry?
