I have the honour to inform Your
Lordship that in April of last year the Director of the
Observatory drew my attention to the fact that owing to
constant interruptions in telegraphic communication with
the Gap Rock Lighthouse the framing of local storm warnings,
which largely depends on comparison between observations
made at the Lighthouse and those made at the same time at
the Observatory, was rendered impossible. Dr. Doberck
stated that during the year 1905 telegraphic communication
with Gap Rock was interrupted on 146 days, and that up to
the date of his report the connection had been interrupted
on 37 days out of 107.
