position in the Sanitary Department; that in his reply to the 5th charge (not afterwards proceeded with in the absence of witnesses) he admits having asked to be entertained by the man from whom it was alleged he had received a bribe; that in his reply to the 6th charge he acknowledges that he was offered a present and that in answer to a question by me (page 22 of Enclosure 2) he admits that he did not report this irregularity thereby committing a breach of the General Orders of the Colony (No. 21).

In the circumstances above set forth I concur in the advice of my Council that Mr. Conolly should be dismissed and I have accordingly informed him that I should recommend this to Your Lordship. I have now to ask for approval and confirmation of that recommendation, and I have further to request that Your Lordship's decision may be communicated to me by telegraph.
