uniform and passages, would be $3,932.30 (taking exchange

at 2/- to the dollar) or say $4,000 while a sum of $731.85

say $750 would be required for furniture, linen etc. The

average annual cost over a period of seven years would be

a little less for salaries etc., while for furniture it

would be a little over $200. On the other hand the

estimated earnings of the two Nurses are $2,000 in round

figures. To this must be added the interest on the

Association's Guarantee Fund which fund after carrying out

from it the structural alterations necessary to provide

for the required additional accommodation in the Government

Civil Hospital Staff Quarters will amount to some $15,000

and would yield at 6% some $900 per annum. The net cost

to Government would therefore be $1,850 during the first

year and $1,250 per annum in round numbers during each of

the succeeding six years without calculating what should

be debited to Government on account of pensions and without

taking into consideration the proportion of the nurses'

earnings that will be taken up by the Military Contribu-

-tion.
