Dear Sir,

Having heard it reported in Hong Kong that there is a possibility of your vacating your position here in the shipping office here, I write to express my deep regret should such be the case. As one who has had official positions since 1879, when as a Shipping Master on board the P. & O. S.S. "Ocean" I first had official business with you, which said business has ever since been continuous, I have to thank you for the courtesies received at your hands. As a shipmaster since 1898, you have shown that at times difficulties will arise between the shipmaster and his agent, but that such difficulties have invariably been satisfactorily arranged under your jurisdiction, by the exercise of that fairness and business acumen which you have displayed. That there should be any question as to your integrity in the carrying out of your official duties has greatly surprised me, as there can be no solid foundation for questioning your integrity.

I cordially hope that for many years to come, you will be continued in your present position, and that you will continue to give the greatest satisfaction to all concerned in the future, as you have done in the past. Wishing you a long life in your present sphere of usefulness, belief, and to be dear Sir,

Yours very sincerely,

Robert Moore
