He was thought to be dying and invalided out as incurable. That has providentially turned out to be a mistake, and if Lord Elgin feels himself precluded from making any allowances to Mr McDonald, I have his authority to say that he is prepared to undergo a fresh medical examination and to re-enter the Force so as to complete any period of service necessary to entitle him to a pension, which, of course, was one of the inducements held out to him to enter the Force originally.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient servant,

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,

London, S.W.
