"health" the only conclusion I could come to was, that it was determined to hush up this scandal connected with my case and that on that account I would be allowed to slip through and clear my character originally suggested by this destruction of State lively, and how accordingly got rid of thereby disgraced after a most meritorious career.

My case, Sir, was in the hands of defence Lewis and better advice prevailing I was commiserated avoiding great scandal which may throughout the world (it being Conspiracy case) quickly and abroad and bring a perfect and abrupt stop to my pension and start life afresh, and as a French scholar and being an examination in Malay I settled in Taits Settlement and have since settled in Canada where I have now been practising, coming in with letters of introduction.

Here I may mention that the highest personages in England who knew my career and who deeply sympathised with me. Such are the parts you see and any object in writing is in accordance with friendly correspondence recently received from home Parliamenting Under Secretary of State and they are making enquiries as to why justice was denied me.

I have here several times thankfully acknowledged the service, I have rendered to the Government and are fully recognised by them, for Cecil Clementi Smith, recording that "he was desirous of assisting me and recognised the hard work I had done, will in hanging apart from my lasting works and the repay I have carried out there I have quite permanently rendered service."

I am the author of a long list of useful legal acts for which I have more and over again been thanked by Secretaries of State, the Chief Justice of England, Attornies General and others; and I am in possession of testimonials from prominent men like Mr. Arthur Cohen, Al, kt., Für Winfield of the Judicial Committee.

A large number of prominent men to the British Government owe a debt of gratitude was in so many words rendered to me. I now appeal to your sense of Justice which has been so often denied me.

It is true that in spite of the persecution I have met with, I have never been compromised, which is the only redeeming feature that scandalous and unjust treatment which I am still under and resenting. The suffering and hard work I did there and which I was successful in carrying out with great opposition and especially after the appointment of W. Fordman as Chief Justice.

When he at once proceeded to awake his clerk, and which deputy after my only deputy removal from office was promoted to replace me and given honourary distinction.

I respectfully forward with this for your kind acceptance a copy of Dictionary of Legal Quotations published after my paced retirement, a task like the rest which no one else was found bother or capable of undertaking and usually of great value when during the time I was in the Straits Settlements.
