The Regulations (Nos.81 to 96), copies of which are enclosed, specify the proceedings which are taken in a Colony when it is deemed necessary to suspend an officer with a view to his removal from the service; but you must also understand that you will hold the appointment subject to the pleasure of the Crown, and that the pleasure of the Crown that you should no longer hold it may be signified through the Secretary of State, in which case no special formalities are required.
5. If you are prepared to accept the appointment, you should present yourself to one of the Medical Advisers of this Department, whose names are given on the enclosed letter, for the purpose of being medically examined. The letter is to be left with him; and you will be required to pay him a fee of one guinea. He will send his report direct to this Department.
