I am directed by Secretary Sir Edward Grey to

transmit to you herewith for the information of the

Secretary of State for the Colonies a copy of a des-

patch which has been received from His Majesty's

Minister at Peking on the subject of British Postal

Agencies in China.

I am to inform you that Sir E. Grey has approved

Sir John Jordan's action in instructing His Majesty's

Consular Representatives at Amoy, Canton, Hankow and

Swatow to place the postal duties at their Consulates

as far as possible in the hands of the Consulate

Constables.
