I AM requested by Messrs. Erlanger and Co. to instruct you to return a satisfactory reply to any inquiries as to their status which may be made by the Chinese authorities. A loan to the Province of Chihli is, I understand, the business contemplated.
For what purpose is the loan required; have you or Consul-General at Tien-tsin heard anything of this?
If applied to, you may say that the firm in question is a good one.
