In continuation of r. Parnegio's despatch To.
370 of the 5th instant I have the honour to report
the further progross which has been ade in the
negotiations of the "anton-Towloon ;allway prament.
At a meeting hele on the 17th instant obe
Minutes of which I have the honour to onelore, an
understanding #us arrived at on several po ́nts
which had previously caused a difference of opinion,
and the only outstanding question which practically
regains is the faune rice o" the loan. This is
of course a vital consideration, and it has
unfortunately been very unfavourably affected by the
recent all in "hinese securi ties for which the
Chinese themselves ure robably largely responsible.
Conover it would be to the advantage of the British
and Chinese "orporation to meet them in the Lost
liberal spirit and in a telegram which I sight ou
today I ventured to suggest that advice in his senge aight usef:lly be tendered to the Board of
Tirectors.
