Mr. Carnegie to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received July 14.) (No. 138.)

Peking, July 14, 1906. (Telegraphic.) P.

HIS Majesty's Consul-General at Canton has just telegraphed to me as follows : "His Majesty's ship 'Moorhen' reports as follows: 12 miles below Samshui the British steam-ship 'Sainam' was attacked by pirates. The steamer is returning to Canton, a missionary of Wuchow, Dr. Macdonald, having been killed, and the captain and four Indians (? wounded).”

Wai-wu Pu has been requested to send urgent instructions to take all necessary measures for the capture of the pirates to the Viceroy.
