Sir,
Beginning reference to my telegram No 5 of the 25th ultimo, I have
the honour to forward translation of part of the Viceroy's note of the 24th
April referring to the engagement of an engineer to resurvey the Hankow
Canton Railway.
Mr Kinder's reply (copy enclosed to the Hongkong & Shanghai Bank's
telegram was communicated to His Excellency Chang on the 29th March, but I
have not yet heard his decision.
