With reference to my letter of the 2nd instant I
am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to
you copies of two telegrams which have been received
from His Majesty's Minister at Peking in regard to the
seizure by the Viceroy of Canton of coal mortgaged to
the National Bank of China.

In the first it is stated that Fung having agreed
to pay within three months a debt of Twenty-eight
thousand dollars due to Chow previous to the seizure
of the coal, the Viceroy of Canton undertakes to
restore the coal immediately.

The second telegram reports the release of the
coal.

I am,
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.

Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble Servant,
H.H. Campbell
