effect that both the cases in question had been dealt with by the Supreme Court of the Colony: that the claims had in both cases been purchased from the original claimants by Syndicates of Hongkong land speculators, and that in neither case had these parties considered it advisable to appeal to the Privy Council, though in the second case notice of appeal had been given.
I have accordingly to-day addressed a reply to Prince Ch'ing pointing out that the claimants have not yet exhausted their legal remedies, and that, before they do so, such questions can hardly form the subject of diplomatic correspondence between China and Great Britain.
