Sir,
With reference to your letters dated 10th and 24th July 1906 (Numbers 23787/1906 and 25704/1906, respectively), on the subject of a proposed road and reclamation at North Point, Hong Kong, I am commanded by the Army Council to acquaint you, for the information of the Earl of Elgin, that it is understood from a telegram recently received from the General Officer Commanding that an important scheme of reclamation in connection with the new Canton line of railway has been brought forward by the Governor and that this scheme will affect the matter under reference.
Before taking further action the Army Council would desire to be in possession of fuller information, and as Major General Hatton is expected to reach England in September next, they propose to defer the further consideration of the question till they have had an opportunity of conferring with him.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
