I have to inform you that, at a meeting of the Executive Committee of this Council held on 21st inst. a communication from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, a copy of which is enclosed, was under consideration.
It was resolved that a communication be addressed to the Lord President, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, stating that the Executive Committee are strongly of opinion that, in the Colony of Hong Kong, the right to practise Medicine and Surgery should be restricted to duly qualified practitioners who are registered in the Home, Colonial or Foreign List of the British Medical Register, inasmuch as in this way alone can the General Medical Council exercise supervision over the sufficiency of the qualifications and over the professional conduct of the practitioners concerned.
It was resolved that, in answer to the inquiry of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, the Lord President be also reminded that Orders in Council have been issued extending Part II. of the Medical Act, 1886, to the following Colonies, Dependencies, and Foreign Countries: - New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, New Zealand, India, Ceylon, Nova Scotia, Malta, Italy and Japan.
