The Honourable

Sir,

His Excellency the Governor having offered me

the post of Assistant Harbour Master on Mr. Basil Taylor's

return in March next, I have the honour to state that I should

like 2 months' trial under the Harbour Master before finally

accepting the appointment; and that at the expiration of that

period I may be returned to H.M. Navy for passage to England,

so that I may wind up my private affairs and after obtaining

sanction of Admiralty to my retirement as Commander, R.N.,

take up my appointment as Assistant Harbour Master in January,

1909.
