attention had been called was referred to the Trustees of the Belilios Trust Fund for rewarding bravery, and the Trustees have decided that silver and bronze medals and a sum of $10 should be granted to most of the Chinese who had been recommended for recognition at their hands.
In the paragraph headed "Services of Departments and Individuals. H.E's Navy" of my despatch No.262 of the 22nd. of October, I reported that the Commodore had informed me that the services of Stoker William H. Oliver and Petty Officer Frederick L. Maunder, to which I alluded in paragraph 44 of my despatch No.238 of the 5th.of October. would be brought to the notice of the Royal Humane Society.

I have great pleasure in inviting Your Lordship to bring to the notice of the Royal Humane Society the conduct of Mr. H.S.Bevan of Messrs.Lane, Crawford & Co. and of Mr. D.Gourlay, Inspector of Police, and to enclose in original statements by eyewitnesses of the services performed by these two gentlemen.
I also enclose Forms filled in in accordance with the instructions transmitted in Lord Kimberley's Circular Despatch of the 10th. of December, 1870, relating to the manner in which applications to the Royal Humane Society should be made.
