to have made to me, I can't way with regard to all the payments, but there are two or three entries here which I am almost sure that I can prove to you I have not received. I have never received any money here, because on the 16th November there is an entry "Ward coolie labour $20". I have never been in No 8 District. What is the date, Ir Ward?
Mr Hewett:-
A. 16th November 1905.
Dr Atkinson:- On the 16th November 1905, you were on No 9 District, weren't you?
A. Yes, that is right. I was never on No 8 District. You turn up the book. It may be a mistranslation. Where were you living in 1906?
A. In Chater Street Sir.
The Chairman:- Where is that?
A. West Point, Kennedytown.
Dr Atkinson:- Is it near the Terminus of the Tram?
A. Almost on it.
(To witness Leung In). Can you read us out the entry? "Paid 8 District A Wa coolie labour money $20".
I was never on No 8 District, and as a matter of fact I know nothing whatever about the matter. Now, as there is an entry down here on a District I have never been to, how could I possibly receive $20. It says "Supply coolie labour". It is not in my power to supply coolie labour.
I think it is right to tell you that all these entries are possibly faked, that in the sense of putting down these names they have not put down the real names, in order to protect themselves.
On the 5th May it says "Paid No 9 District Wo Kee coolie labour $10". I was then Sir in charge of No 10 District.
You went to No 10 District on the 1st May.
