In continuation of my Confidential Despatch of the 20th September on the subject of discount on British and Chinese Subsidiary Coins, I have the honour to enclose for Your Lordship's information a copy of a letter dated the 23rd instant which I have received from His Britannic Majesty's Consul-General, Canton, from which it appears that subsidiary coins at the rate of $5,000 per diem against a rate of Taels 1,500 or $2,000 per diem reported by Mr. Mansfield on the 12th September, are at the present time being minted at Canton.

2. The discount on Chinese subsidiary coin is now 7½% and on Hongkong subsidiary coin 6.
