My Lord,
Referring to Your Lordship's Despatch No. 146 of the 27th July last on the subject of the pension of Sir Henry S. Berkeley, I have the honour to state that this Officer proposes to retire from the Service of the Crown on the 31st instant and to draw his pension in this Colony.
2. I enclose a copy of a minute by Sir Henry Berkeley regarding the mode of calculating the pension due to him, which he requests may be settled at an early date. The case of Commander R. Murray Rumsey, to which reference is made, was dealt with in Mr. Chamberlain's Despatch No. 198 of the 28th May, 1903, and Mr. Lyttelton's Despatch No. 466 of the 24th December following.
3. I have to express regret at losing the services of Sir Henry Berkeley whose relations with myself...
