The only candidate when it was considering against Lieut. Beckwith is Lent. Luckey, R.N. (43363/06). He has 13 yrs Merchant Service and 10 yrs in the R.N. to set against Lieut. Beckwith's 9 yrs & 10 yrs respectively. He is 41 & married. Lieut. Beckwith is 34. I see no reason against Luckey. But I do not think Sir M. Nathan should have gone out of his way to say something about the prospects of permanent appointment to the Admiral, as his telegram to the Admiral, ... was unnecessary and would have been glad to have been spared the pay offered - nothing had been said about it in the telegram between you & ... officers.
