In continuation of my confidential despatch of today's date on the subject of a successor to Sir Henry Berkeley in the office of Attorney General in this Colony, I have the honour to inform your Lordship that, since writing that despatch, I have been formally approached by Sir Paul Chater & Mr. E. A. Hewett, as unofficial members of the Executive Council and as representing unofficial members of the Legislative Council with the request that I should express to Your Lordships the satisfaction with which the members of both Councils would meet the appointment of Mr Scrcombe Smith to the vacant post.
