This estimate must unfortunately be increased on account of damage done by subsequent rain-storms and typhoons which caused considerable landslips and destroyed sea-walls and rubble mounds. The votes which it will be necessary to take in the Legislative Council on account of Typhoon Damages will probably not fall far short of $100,000.
This amount is, however, very small in comparison with that of the damage done to private property particularly in the harbour. I have assumed Your Lordship's approval to my taking such votes as may appear to me to be necessary to secure all essential repairs being at once carried out.
31. The Canton-Kowloon Railway Works suffered considerably. The storeyard at Tai Kok Tsui on the West side of the Kowloon Peninsula was submerged by about 2 feet of water. Two large Godowns, one for miscellaneous stores and the other containing 500 casks of cement
